How We Plan and Build Your Web Site
We follow a careful step-by-step approach when planning and building your web site, and we involve you every step of the way.
1. Consultation & Discovery For new web sites, we will ask you a number of questions regarding your target market and the purpose and scope of your site. For existing web sites, we can also prepare a comprehensive site audit that outlines the weaknesses of your existing site, providing recommendations for improvement. During the discovery phase, we develop an understanding of your business and your expectations for your web site. 2. Site Architecture Site architecture (i.e., content planning and navigation planning) is a step overlooked by many web developers, but it is essential if your site is to be easy to use and accessible to visitors. Based on the initial consultation and site audit (if applicable), we draft a navigation map and potential timelines for development. You will see how your the content of your site will be organized in flow-chart format. At this point, we discuss revisions and other ideas that may develop, and we talk about specific design elements. 3. Draft Graphics Once navigation planning is complete, we prepare initial graphics and provide a draft template for the home page (a sub-page template may also be provided depending on content). You approve the graphics and template before we proceed with in-depth production work. 4. Site Development & Production At this point, we both share a clear vision of your web site, and we proceed to the actual production of the site on a page-by-page basis. Implementation of special interactive features (e.g., product catalogues, shopping carts, discussion forums, feedback forms) takes place at this stage. 4. Final Review & Launch During the third and fourth steps, we provide proofs of individual pages and functionality for client review. At this point, we also complete the work required to prepare the site for proper indexing in the major search engine, including compilation of keywords. When we receive final approval, the web site is then made "live" to the public. 5. Distribution Distribution of your web site to internet search engines and directories is a critical step in web site development. This step is so important we have created a special page to explain it. How Much Does a Web Site Cost?
The cost of a web site can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, depending on the sophistication of the design, the amount of content, and the amount of technical interactivity. While some web site developers offer flat rates for web sites, we develop a custom price for you depending on your specific needs.
We understand that your budget is your bottom line, so we strive to be clear on the size of the site that you need and the amount of ongoing maintenance the site will require. We help our clients develop long-term internet strategies that keep within their budgets.
By starting with a navigation map and project timelines, we can provide specific estimates that will be concise and within your budget from the onset. Please contact us for more information and a free consultation.
