September 26th, 2001[PETERBOROUGH] The Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) was awarded first place for its regional tourism website WWW.THEKAWARTHAS.NET at the 2001 Marketing Canada Awards presented today at the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) Annual Conference in Moncton, New Brunswick.
The tourism regional website was chosen as a winner from more than twenty other communities across Canada in the Website Category. The award selection committee called the Peterborough and the Kawarthas website "DYNAMIC".
"National recognition like this not only focuses attention on the quality of our regional marketing work and tourism efforts it also recognizes the importance of the tourism industry in economic development," said Susan Cudahy, GPA EDC President & CEO.
The Peterborough and the Kawarthas regional tourism website receives approximately 200 visitor sessions per day from around the world and has received more than 2 million gross hits since it's launch one year ago.
The website was designed locally by Quid Novis Internet Productions and contains photographs by Michael Cullen of Trent Photographics and several other local professional and amateur photographers.
This is the third award for this web site in the past year.
